1995 jeep grand cherokee laredo will not accelerate Sign In

hello. i have a 1995 jeep grand cherokee laredo, 4.0 liter, 6 cylinder. after driving to the point where the engine warms up, the thing acts like it does not want to take the gas - as i push on the accelerator it starts to buck and jump around, like there is a "miss". if i ease off of the throttle, to the point where i am barely pushing on it, it will smooth out and run fine - but i am only moving at about 2 miles an hour. sometimes if i stop and let it cool down for awhile, it may run okay for a few miles, and then back to bucking and jumping. when i park it for the night and get into it the next day, it will run fine - until it warms up - and then start all over again. when it is going through these "episodes", the motor will run fine when i put it in park. i can "dead rev" it in park and it purrs like a kitten. put it in drive and the rodeo begins! any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you. mike

Those symptoms are consistent with either a bad coil, Mass Air flow sensor or restricted Catalytic converter.

Well, you can rule out the MAF sensor. Coil breaking down and worn out plug wires can cause missing under load.

You can check for restricted exhaust by screwing a back pressure gauge into the O2 sensor bung hole before the converter. If you have more than 3 psi at 2000 rpm, you got some corking going on.

thank you for your time and your help. any other suggestions? the plug wires, plugs, distributor cap are near new. the ignition coil is new. the catalytic converter is unrestricted. when you say coil, do you mean the "pickup coil" within the distributor? thanks again.

No, I mean the "ignition coil"

The 55 just means test complete. the 22 is for low voltage on the coolant temp sensor.

Re: 1995 jeep grand cherokee laredo will not accelerate Sign In

thanks for the fault codes hammer time. i just received more info on the problem. i spoke to the previous owner of the vehicle and was told that this happened to him several times, but it usually only did it when the car was sitting, idling, with the a/c on. he thought it also was low on fuel when it happened. he replaced the fuel filter, but obviously that didnt work. any thoughts? fuel pump or something related to fuel delivery? thanks again.

I don't know what any of that would have to do with a temp sensor code.

Re: 1995 jeep grand cherokee laredo will not accelerate Sign In

the temp sensor code is obviously another problem. the post on the info i received was referring to my intial post on the vehicle not accelerating and/or bucking and jumping when depressing the accelerator. thanks.

Re: 1995 jeep grand cherokee laredo will not accelerate Sign In

That could be directly related to the temp sensor so you need to resolve that first.
