Works then quits. How about the plug to it? Shows a three wire job and still available new pigtail if not connecting properly might need a new one.

Wires all over get bumped, connections and more from swapping out an engine or just anyway. Just unplug it now, spray some silicone spray or WD-40 in connection and see if it works again or the same,

Some plugs you can tighten how they connect with pliers some not. This type if correct a bit fussier IMO more pin connection than spade types. With some time, heat and age the bail that hold plug to sender on tight may have already broken too?

Wiggle test it in place. If that works maybe (would have to look myself) you could make it connect better if that with tiny watch size flat head screwdriver to bend outside plug metal to make it tighter? That or the small male spades sometimes you can twist carefully with needle nose pliers.

This bull is common to me for old stuff and that's all I really deal with about now!

What is the problem you are trying to fix. The oil pressure sender doesn't keep the engine running.

HT - you have the diagrams. Being a truck I can't guess well but three wires alone suggests it's involved with more than just sending along oil pressure to a gauge. Should be uniform for 1/2 ton rated trucks but can't know for sure,

Tom, the oil pressure switch is also used to allow power to the fuel pump when there is enough oil pressure. I never quite understood the reason why GM designed it that way because the fuel pump relay also allows power to the fuel pump. I guess if the fuel pump relay fails there is a back up. Just to note that if you lose oil pressure, the fuel pump doesn't quit. That is unless the relay is missing or faulty.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thanks DS. I know oil pressure is SOMETIMES involved with power to fuel pumps. Without really accurate data almost non existent for a couple cars and many more trucks I can't know but the problem being intermittent smacks of a connection which for some reason I find a lot of especially when a vehicle has been worked on and they all get unplugged and put aside or banged around, squished - whatever.

It's just a 40+ year thing with me on thing like this - any machine never mind auto/truck stuff. Almost always when an engine has been pulled out totally for any reason something would screw up somewhere but might have left working fine - even a year!

Somehow over all those mega years I ended up with problems nobody found and this thread with a swapped engine and oil pressure switch in question about it plus intermittently wont run sparked me to that as possible. Agreed, that if it was supposed to stay quit you'd find it fast or if as you said relay continues without regard symptom might be long cranking or something then run fine?
In short, it's the THREE wire deal that makes me wonder.

That started at least back to 1970 GMs Chev Vega just introduced found not starting all the time and was that. Only 3 wire common idiot light switch I ran into on GMs at the time. Yes, the Vega had an electric fuel pump in 1970! Of course most of those cars totally blew up within two years so nobody would remember them - smile/cry.

Here's the real switch with large spades from back when that caused untold headaches..........

It wasn't a problem TMK unless it was previously unplugged for any reason?
Tom
