1993 chevy astro

my 1993 chevy astro usually runs fine IT HAS A 4.3 THROTTLE BODY FUEL INJECTION ENGINE, WHEN IT STARTS.it used to take a while to start it when it was cold , a spray of starting fluid and it would start right up. then in the summer i would never have a problem starting it becuse it was warm . this year i did the tune up replaced the spark plugs and wires ,cap and rotor and it was running fine . then it got hard to start again and then the starting fluid wouldnt work , the battery got weak and it was about time to replace it so , i replaced it , got a brand new diehard for it and it turns over but wont start. then i checked out the spark it was weak so i changed the coil , that wasnt it , i changed the module under the distributor, that is not it , i even changed the engine computer that a mechanic told me to replace ,but he did show me where it was bad. if there is aspecial way to put the computer on please tell me but i did watch the guy take it out. i did try it and it still does the rev up wanna start but doesnt , got gas got spark but no start .even checked the fuel pump relays and the pump turns on and it pumps. ? im at my wits end ive even missed days of work waiting for someone with an answer to this major problem in my life ,and the bike -bus thing im forced to do really sucks. im a driver ive got a licence for a reason , please HELP !!!!

Sorry about your problems . Ths is a classic example of throwing hard earned money at a problem. Lets try and get you on the right track to fixing it . Hammer Time has gone to trouble of making a checklist to follow for no start conditions . If you follow it exactly as written you will have a running car. Pay particular attention to fuel pressure , just having some pressure is not enough . Here is the checklist , good luck .,

If you own a vehicle built from the mid 80's on, it will be fuel injected. If you need to diagnose a starting problem with this vehicle, here is what you need to do before asking us for diagnosis help.
All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment.
If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money.
Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for.
These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause.
1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on.
2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on.
3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off.
4) If all of these things check good, then you would need to do a complete compression test.
Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out,
you will know which system is having the problem.

thank you re-tired , so it's got to be that it;s not giving enough pressure, then ? what is the correct fuel pressurre for a chevy 4.3 v-6? where can i get that information ?? i will check that out .

Hello vman66 , after reading your post i think the key words here is when you said " i did try it and it still does the rev up wanna start but doesnt " . Revs up for like 2 seconds and then dies ? Does your Key have a small Chip in it ? is the chip still there ? If the chip is still there , i would suspect that the 2 orange wires from the key switch may have broken and the security cant see the key in the switch thus disabling the fuel/spark. If you van has this put the key in the switch go to the bottom of the sterring column look for the two orange wires coming down from the switch with the key in put an ohm meter between the wires, if it reads open ( Nothing ) i would suspect the switch.

You have to do the tests and look at the results .If you keep jumping from fix to fix , you will be a broke man with a broken car. Take your time , I feel you are capable of fixing your car.

hi there people , i did the pressure test with the help of a friend and its not giving enough pressure. it s at like 2 to 3 and it should be at 9 to 12.thanks re tired for all of your help and now u can go fishing. thids i understand is a big engine job , so i really dont know what im gonna do?

Big engine job? ............ The fuel pump is inside the gas tank and hardly a big engine job.

ooh i'm sorry i didnt explain myself the engines compression is low not the fuel pumps compression.
