Hello,

I have a 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1 Liter LE with about 70,000 miles. Automatic transmission.

I am experiencing some rough running in my engine; I notice that when I am stopped at a light and in drive, the engine runs rough and the car shakes noticeably. It seems to last a little bit as I accelerate but once I get a little bit of speed it seems fine, at least until I get on the highway and start shifting into higher gears. Basically, it seems that the car starts shaking as it's approaching a speed where it would shift. I have to give it a lot of gas, then it shifts and is fine. Stopped in neutral or park it seems smooth and normal.

Last Fall and Winter I was having constant rough running and poor gas mileage (Something like 8/gal while it is now up to 16 or 17). The mechanic at the dealer told me one of the cylinders had a misfiring piston and another had one that didn't fire at all. Last June he replaced one of the engine coils which made things much better except for the problems I noted above.

Also, here are links to previous threads about the earlier trouble I was having.

You have three open threads on this same subject now. The two most recent threads are locked now.

This is making it really confusing because of the duplication. Please continue in this thread:
