My '93 Escort Wagon has a hard time getting up to speed when entering the freeway and once it's up to 50-55 mph it starts to jerk and shudder like it's going to lose power or shut down. I can punch it and accelerate but it doesn't want to stay up at a higher speed. The check engine light comes onduring all of this too. It starts up without issue, idles normal and I can drive it around town just fine and it doesn't have a problem. It's only once I get up over 45 and start getting into the higher speeds that it starts to jerk. One of the terminal heads on the battery was pretty loose and I thought that might be contributing to the issue. I've tightened it down really well and the same problem is happening. Other than that, I have not done any diagnostics or troubleshooting repairs. Not quite sure where to start. Any suggestions or insight are greatly appreciated!
