My '93 Escort Wagon has a hard time getting up to speed when entering the freeway and once it's up to 50-55 mph it starts to jerk and shudder like it's going to lose power or shut down. I can punch it and accelerate but it doesn't want to stay up at a higher speed. The check engine light comes onduring all of this too.

It starts up without issue, idles normal and I can drive it around town just fine and it doesn't have a problem. It's only once I get up over 45 and start getting into the higher speeds that it starts to jerk.

One of the terminal heads on the battery was pretty loose and I thought that might be contributing to the issue. I've tightened it down really well and the same problem is happening. Other than that, I have not done any diagnostics or troubleshooting repairs. Not quite sure where to start.

Any suggestions or insight are greatly appreciated!

You need to have the codes read and post the numbers here/
