unable to read codes

1994 chevrolet 454 in a motor home, engine running rough, check engine light on all the time. There is no wire connected to ALDL terminal A, I grounded terminal B, no effect, I grounded B-C-D-E and F one at a time, no effect, check engine light will not display code 12 or any other code. What do I do now?

Your vehicle is in a transition year where they used mixed systems and components. Some of them use and OBD2 connectors on an OBD1 system. These vehicles can only be read using a professional scan tool.

Thank you, thank you, will the auto store code reader ($130) do the job or do I have to get a pro with a $3000 code reader?

That one is probably going to require the $3000 tool unfortunately. The code reader only works with 100% OBD2.

you can probably get a used snap on mt2500 scan tool used on ebay for around 400-500 dollars.

You are actually going to need an adapter that makes the OBD1 and OBDII compatable. You may be able to go to your local dealer(if there are any left around your area) and borrow one to read the code.
Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

Yes, but you will still need the scan tool that will come with that adapter already.
