p0420 code 2003 ford taurus 3.0 110000miles

p0420 code 2003 ford taurus 3.0 110000miles Sign In

car JUST came back from dealer.car is a 2003 ford Taurus has a 3.0 motor and about 110000 miles.was misfireing on 1,3,5,cyls...did this for several weeks.I took it to my dealer and they installed a coil pack.I have put in plugs,wires,2 o/2 sensors,and dealer installed a coilpack.....coil fixed the mis-fire and now I get this p0420 code.All work,less the coil pack was done over a yr or so ago,car is due for inspection.....gas milage is about 20 per gal and is mostly driven just on the streets...also have just put in lucas it clean any deposits..car runs like it should....no noises or misfires..help....thanksUnsure

Driving it around with that severe misfire has ruined your Catalytic Converter and you're going to have to replace it.

any chance that to o2 sensor is bad?I have replaced it before....thanks

Nope, it takes a very specific set of circumstances to set that code and given the history, it is no surprise at all and actually expected.

like most fords I guess...it has more than 1....which 1 would I need to replace,or how could I tell which 1 needs to be replaced.......thank you...was hoping for better news...lol

I don't believe you are going to have that option. I believe they are all built into a single "Y" pipe that has to be replaced. It should come with all of them.

Either way, you need the one for the rear bank.

thanks....it has 1 in the front by the motor,and then 1 on down in the middle of the system....so...its the rear 1 that needs to be replaced....right? thank you for your time

I believe it may actually have 3. I can't give you specifics because I don't know what engine you have. All 3 available engines are 3.0. I need the 8th digit of te VIN#.

OK, it actually has 3. The 3rd one is not monitored so you are looking at changing the "Y" pipe.
