Hi, thanks for the response. I looked up walker suppliers like you said and there all service stations or repair shops, not auto parts suppliers. All I want is to buy another cat., pay for it, then return the defective one from the store i bought the new one and get a credit. I am a delivery contractor for a major Automotive parts Co. in MA.. I can get the cat. from them but they are not a dealer on the list of distributers, Why does walker make you have to go to a service station? My Co. has major account's with direct-tire, meineke muffler,sear's,Midas ect.. I deliver walker cats. to all of them,all the time. Why can't they replace it and I'll pay for the labor? What can I do?

Talk to one of the shops on the list & see if they can warranty the cat if they do the install. You said you were ok with paying labor..... Some shops won't warranty a suppliers part unless they sell it but some might... You said you have the reciepts & if ya catch em on a slow day............... Like I said, I deal with 50-60 garages a day. Labor ain't much anyway. Should I have one of them call walker warrenty to get a replacement?? I have all the receipts

Hi Loren, I'll tell you about the truck and tell me what you think. I bought it new,alway's took care of it,change oil every 2-3000 miles. It's a 4.3 4X4. I drive and work on the road so i pyle up the mileage. Only major problems was 3 fuel pumps went. It failed emmision's two years ago with 126,000 miles on her so I bought the new cat and passed. I think 3 times this winter, I got stuck plowing and it took a while to get out but got real hot like 250-260 then went back to normal. Could that do it? Also this winter when it snowed and when I went to start it, it wouldn't start. I thought it was the fuel pump again so had it towed to my mechanic. 3 day's he had it and couldn't find any problems but still didn't start. the forth day he went to work on it and it started right up so i drove it for about a month and the same thing happened. It was the wires-rotor-cap. I wanted plugs put in,he wouldn't do it because he said they would probably break. Truck runs great but could it be the plugs? truck has 195,000. put new plugs in with 66,000 7 yrs. ago. What do you think? have you ever heard of them breaking while taking them out? What do you do if one does break? Any help or suggestions?

netmind; Yes, I'd replace the plugs. I don't live in a climate that we have to deal with rust and have never broken a spark plug off in the head, yet....If you are concerned, you could spray some lubricant around the base of the plugs with the engine cool, let it sit for an hour or two, then try removing them. Be sure to use dielectric grease on the spark plug boots when you go back together. Now...the cat. The catalytic coverter is there to burn up unburned fuel coming from the engine if it is running poorly. A good running engine doesn't need a cat to pass emissions. Any misfire, over or under fueling will take it's toll on the cat. That's why it is so important to address engine management problems immediately. You can take a poor running engine, put on a new cat, and it will more than likely pass, but the life of the cat is questionable at best. It sounds like you've taken care of your truck or it wouldn't have lasted this long.  One of the most common problems that I see with the 4.3s are running too cool. It is imperative that the engine runs at temp (200-220F). They are designed that way. It burns the fuel better, evaporates moisture in the crankcase, will actually get better mileage and the engine will last longer because it is more efficient. Have a great weekend. Loren SW WA
