Is the engine running rough? If the check engine light is flashing, that means you have a catalyst damaging misfire. You really shouldn't drive the vehicle anymore until your misfiring problem is resolved. The P0302 means the engine computer is detecting a misfire on #2 cylinder. You should figure out if that is true and what is causing the misfire to occur. Test for spark, make sure there are no runner vacuum leaks on that cylinder, and test for injector activity.

Don't worry about the other codes until you resolve the misfire code and rough running engine.

Thank you.. soo we will work on the misfire. is this something a novice could do on their own or best to bring to garage? trying to save the money but don't want to make worse either. misfiring to me means to check plugs wires and such..

Yep, check for spark on that cylinder. That would be the easiest thing to check first. Inspect the spark plug cable really good and remove the spark plug and do a visual inspection. Look for any burn marks on the boot or wire that would allow spark to jump to ground. Use a spark tester to see if your spark will jump at least a 3/4 inch gap.

Perfect thank you so much for your help i am just foing to change all plugs and wires anyhow just to clean it up and see how that does. I will get back to you if that does not help.. lol if the car runs smoother and does not shut off y itself i can just unplug the battery to reset the codes correct?

Sorry, this engine doesn't have spark plug wires. It has coil over plug just like in the video. How many miles on this? You will still need to test for spark on that cylinder using a spark tester.

It is probably due for spark plugs, but you still need to test that coil to see if it is throwing spark. Also inspect the coil boot for burn marks. You can also connect the coil to a spark tester and run a 12 volt test lamp over the boot and bottom of coil to see if there is any leakage. You really don't want to run the engine too long if there is a no spark condition. I'm not sure if that vehicle has the capability of disabling an injector if it senses a catalyst damaging misfire on that cylinder. Misfires can damage the catalytic converter beyond repair.

You may need to use a code reader to clear trouble codes on that one, once the misfiring problem is resolved.

Re: dodge avenger codes Sign In

Sorry to bud in here; but I would have the other two codes also diagnosed before any ignition parts go into this vehicle.
The P0700 is telling us that there's a code in the transmission controller. You'll need a proper scanner to retrieve transmission codes.
The P0217 has been showing up a fair amount as of latelyl. It deals with the intake manifold runner control system. What I've found is the valve/flap inside the intake becomes jammed or broken; if this is the case a new intake manifold will be needed.

That's why I'm suggesting that you have all codes diagnosed before any parts are purchased. It may be more then you want to spend?

Dan.
