Well finally had it towed to a garage; it was diagnosed with a broken timing guard, was told it would be about 1100 to repair or 1400 for a "new" used engine. Decided it was time to end the love affair and sold it for parts. Thanks to all for your advice, you were all right on the money; it did need the new cat; and all the other crap we put into it, and probably tons more too :)

I remember. The car that sounded like a moped. Well, you done all you can do with what you had. With the mileage it had on it, it had a good service life. May it rest in peace.
