I have a 1999 GMC Jimmy That has been running rough especially when idling, and blowing out black smoke. I took it to a mechanic, and he could not pull any codes from the computer, and each time we replaced the computer fuse, it would blow. I found a car electrician who noticed that all the wires under my ash tray were totally fried. I paid to have him replace them, and then he got the codes from the computer.

The codes read:

P0131
P0134
P0154
P0174
P0300
P1153
P0147
P0151
P0154
P1133
P1153

He said that some of them repeated. I had hoped that getting the computer wiring fixed so that it could regulate the fuel mixture would fix the problem, but is starting to smoke and rough idle again. All together, what do these codes mean, and how much am I looking at to fix it, and can I do it myself if I get the Chilton's book? Is my car safe to drive with this? I am in Texas, don't know anyone, and just starting a new job in a new area, and don't have alot of money right now, just trying to get on my feet.

Hmmm... That doesn't look to good. Did your tech clear the codes & then all those codes came right back?? It's possible to still have a bad wire that is shorting something out. Usually it's not good when a PCM starts throwing that many codes out...

If you can see black smoke coming out and as bad as it's running it wouldn't be a good idea to drive it, you would probably wind up taking you cat out as well....

This one I would say is a little out the range of a DIYer..... you're probably going to have to take it in to get checked..........

That black smoke is a sign of excessive fuel going thru the exhaust system. Your catalytic converter wasn't designed to handle that amount of air/fuel mixture and it can severely damage it
