I changed the spark plugs and the light went away. Now, I ran an OBD2 scanner to see what came up.. nothing. I don't know if this is a good thing or not. Should there still be something coming up if the check engine light WAS on two days ago? Or does the code go away once the problem is fixed? I've heard mixed stories. some people saying it should still show up and some saying it won't, Thanks. Quit this biz long, long ago now. I don't have a scanner but rather use the big buck ones from affiliated shop a stone's throw away. Whatever vehicle this is if running fine now and light out you lucked out that plugs fixed it and was probably sensing misfires but couldn't tell you from a plug or maybe plug wire that didn't like high resistance to it but OK with a new one. Light out and running well if so the car/vehicle will forget this in time. If used daily probably within a couple weeks or so doing nothing but driving it. You can speed that up with some cars but again if running well with no warning you can forget it for now. Cheap equipment (seen for $49 bucks!) can't be good. Plug in may even be so cheap it can't work! You would think any could say it's at least communicating. Of all things if a plug misfired some code if only for an O2 sensor out of spec should show if not which cylinder. Said - I want latest and greatest and will no longer pay for it to use only maybe once in a couple years then out of date. Not so sure and never let some auto parts outlet touch my own but they advertise doing this for free all around here anyway. Done with this biz as said. Had one of my own do the CEL light, ran like shat for a few seconds and light went out and was fine. Showed nothing on OBDII real good scanner but too late as it was fine. A whole year later found rotted caps to wires going to O2 sensors intermittently touching/grounding from rot. Sensors were fine but had to go - all FOUR on that vehicle.
