Infiniti G35 (2007) - Timing Valve Controllers Sign In

Hi Everyone: Just a girl looking for some help. I have a 2007, Infiniti G35, 4-Sedan, Automatic Transmission, w/160K miles. A few years ago my car started shaking when I would brake. Since I was recently laid off, I just allowed it to happen because I couldn't afford getting it fixed. The "service engine" light is on and I can not pass my smog test now. I took my car to a non-Infiniti mechanic and I was told my two Valve Timing Controllers would need to be replaced. The parts would cost $500 each and 8+ hours of labor. Then I was told that they weren't certain that would even fix my problem with passing smog. I'm starting to stress. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Questions:

Is it worth me fixing the car? Will I get another 100K on my transmission? Or should I just trade the car in? Is it even "tradeable"?

What were the exact code numbers?

I wish I knew. I just picked up the car yesterday, after two days of testing, and all he did was write "Found two front timing controllers bad. Should replace timing controllers and recheck system". Sorry.

I find that very hard to believe. Those controllers rarely go bad and wanting to change both of them is just wild guessing. They do have a lot of trouble with the solenoids which are much cheaper and easier to change but i find it hard to believe you have 2 of anything bad. I would need the code numbers to tell you any more.
