98 Honda Accord Maintenance Light Sign In

I have a 98 Honda Accord EX, 4cyl. The Maintenance light came on about a month ago. I thought it was because the oil needed to be changed. I had the oil changed on 5/31 and the light is still on. It's not the engine light. This car has two lights. Forgive me, this is my first Honda. (I drove Chevys before and was just used to the light being on.) Can I take this to be coded or are the Maintenance lights different? The car only has 72K miles on it. So I thought maybe this is one of those lights that is set to come on automatically at a set milage in order to suck you into the dealer. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: 98 Honda Accord Maintenance Light Sign In

There are a number of different procedures for turning off these maintenance lights, all depending on the model and that models accessories.
Here’s one of the most common procedures for a 98 Accord.

Turn the ignition switch to the off position.
Push and HOLD the SELECT/RESET button on the instrument cluster and then turn the ignition switch to the on position. (The same position as if the engine was running)
Continue to hold the SELECT/RESET button for a minimum of 10 seconds or until the light goes out.

Like I said there are a number of different procedures for doing this. If this one isn’t the proper one have a look through your owners manual; it should explain it there.
