1997 Dodge Intrepid 3.3L 154,000 miles

had code for 3 of the 4,, 02 sensors. I replaced all 4. I then cleared codes and drove the car 50 miles to reset moniters. Took it to be smoged and told the guy what id done. He checked to see if moniter had run. All had but 2, and he said the car could be smoged ,,that the car would pass the moniter check with 2 moniters not runniing but no more than 2. So I had him smoged the car and it failed for HI HC at 25/25. when I got home and went out an hour latter I stated the car, the engin light came on with 2 codes for the 2 upstreem of the 02. I find no leaks before the 02 and find it hard to think that the 02 could be bad at the same time having just replaced all of them
the smog test shows the car is running rich but still within the pass range. So Its slightley rich. And failed HC by 13 ppm. also I changed the oil after the test. It was very durty,,very very. The car at idle shows a slight sign of smoke from tail pipe. when I say slight I mean it almost not noticabul inless you stand ther and look at it. Point, it burning oil and as slight as it is to see Im thinking Oil must make some HC. But I dont know. Anyway when I canged the oil I used a synthetic hi milage 10/40 and now no smoke. I know there is a problem and dont think its 02 but I also know I can drive 40 miles and run the moniters to satisfie smog. Have you ever seen and oil change get a car past smog? Im only 13 ppm from makeing it. and yes the car was warm and he ran it 3 times. The guy busted his but to get me to pass.

I was able to put the car on a scanner. Was not able to go for a drive but at idle the 02s never go past mid way. one stays at .03 and the other goes as hi as .06 and boath stay low. but the test showed a richer than normal condition. so im thinking the computer see lean and is making the mixture rich. but what make the o2 stay low?

1st it would help to know the exact codes you were and are getting..

The voltages do look low but there are a lot of things that can make the O2s go low other than bad O2s.

On quick check you can run is get a can of carb cleaner and spray around the intake manifold and make sure the gasket isn't leaking.....Those are good for bad gaskets..............

Thanks you Sidom

Will return with that info on voltage later. Frend is goiing to let me use his scanner. So Im going to drive and ck voltage and also look idle again. and I will spray with carb cleaner on intake and see if I get a voltage change.

While you might see a voltage change on the O2s spraying carb clean, you can actually listen & see if this affect the rpms. If the rpms raise then you have a vacuum leak.

You don't remember what the origina codes were?
