I have a 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix with about 107,000 miles on it. The check engine light has been coming on for a couple weeks now and it always comes on when the temperature gauge is halfway between 110 and 240 degrees (around 170?). The only thing I've noticed is that you have to almost floor it to get it to accelerate at the normal rate. Other than that, there haven't been any problems with it, but I took it to Autozone and had a diagnostic scan done anyway. They came up with a code 75, ERG solenoid (it could have been egr too, but I'm not entirely sure) Since I have no idea what any of this means, I'm hoping someone knows something about this. It's not a huge problem, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Code 75 is for EGR solenoid one. Your EGR valve has three solenoids, and #1 is seeing a problem. These units are quite expensive and I'd want to be darned sure that it is the valve and not a circuit problem before replacing it. But...with that said, unless the valve is being held open (maybe, by a piece of carbon), this won't cause a drivability issue. If it IS being held open, it will cause probably a higher than normal idle and because it's open, a vacuum leak, which will in turn, can cause the MAP sensor to see a low vacuum value, which in turn will cause overfueling, which in turn (I hate to keep typing 'which in turn'..kind of like the leg bone is connected to the ...) can cause the catalytic converter to plug (or just plain destroy it) which would account for your loss of power. Whew! That was a mouthful!
