92 Ford E 350 some codes Sign In

I have a 92 E 350 Ford van with a 7.3 and a E4Od transmission.Van has over 200000 miles on her.I have been having some problems with the transmission.I hooked up my scan tool and during the KOEO test I got a code 97 and it said my OICL failed. also cam up with a code 15 and KAM Failure Then with van running I got a code 11.I read what the codes mean but still don't understand why and what to look for.So help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

97 is Transmission control indicator lamp circuit failure
15 is PCM ROM test failed
11 is system pass

The 97 code can pop up if you didn't cycle the TCS button during the self test.
The 15 code is a kiss of death for the PCM. All powers and grounds to the PCM need to be checked before replacing the PCM if the code returns.

If you clear the codes by disconnecting the battery, which ones come back?

What is the problem your having with the transmission? What are the symptoms?

Thank you for replying. The issues I have been having are after awhile of driving the overdrive light will start flashing.Transmission still shifts normal the shifts are a little bit higher.A few years ago a light on the body got pinched and was grounding out on the metal.Fuse didn't blow but it took out the diode and the ECM.After I shut off engine and go to restart the light will go off and stay off for little while .Thanks for your help with this.

Which light got grounded out? Don't see how a light being grounded could create a surge and damage the PCM. Did you cycle the TCS switch when you did the self test? Like what was mentioned above, clear the codes and see which ones come back.

If you had replaced the PCM, did you pull it out of a another vehicle? If so, was it the same year?

Re: 92 Ford E 350 some codes Sign In

This was a stripped chassis and had a box on back. One of the clearance light wires were pinched in the body.So I ran a scan on it then and it said the ECM was bad.I replaced the ECM with a rebuilt one from Napa.before I turned engine on I thought about the diode that controls the ECM,My fluke tester showed it was bad.No problems for a few months and then the OD light started flashing after about 10 or 12 miles. Then some days i can go about 20 miles before it will flash. Thanks for replying

If that ROM code keeps popping up, you could have a defective PCM. That is as long as the PCM has good powers and grounds and you don't have excessive alternator ripple going on.

There are diodes in the transmission solenoid pack that could go bad and cause PCM problems. The diodes in those years were put in to keep fly back voltage the solenoids generate when they are denergized from damaging the PCM. In the newer years (prolly around 94) they did away with the diodes and added protection in the PCM. Can't use a newer solenoid pack with and older PCM or it will damage it.
