2000 Honda Civix LX with flashing engine light Sign In

2000
Honda
Civic
1.6
198,900 miles

Thank you in advance for your opinions on this.

I have a 2000 Honda Civic LX. The check engine light is on solid, and when I stop and idle, it bucks and the check engine flashes. When I go again, the engine light goes back to solid. However, every time I stop and idle, it starts flashing again. The cars seems a little off when driving, but not bad. However, when I stop, the car runs badly and bucks.

I just had all of the plugs and wires replaced when I had a full tune-up done a few weeks ago. I brought my car into Autozone to have the check engine light codes read, and got the following codes:

P0430- Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2
P0302- Cylinder 2 misfire detected
P0303- Cylinder 3 misfire detected
P0304- Cylinder 4 misfire detected
P0430- Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1
P1399- Misfire detected
P300- Random multiple misfire detected

If any of you could offer me any insight into this, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You have 2000 in the header and 1993 in the subject. Assuming this a 2000 because I don't think they had misfire diagnostics in 1993.

Was it missing before the tune up?

You need to isolate which cylinder(s) are missing at idle. You can do that by unplugging each injector one at time to see which cylinder(s) don't make difference in the way it is running.

Once you figure out which cylinder(s), you need to figure out why. Is it lack of spark, fuel, or a compression causing the misfire to occur.

Re: 2000 Honda Civix LX with flashing engine light Sign In

Thanks for the heads up. I fixed the header. It is a 2000.

There were misfires before the tune-up. The garage diagnosed bad wires and/or plugs. They did a whole tune-up and it ran great. The problem now is much different.

Before there was no power. I hit the gas and nothing happened. It was hard to get going, and misfires were occeruing. At high speeds, up hills, and initial accelerations, itt got worse.

Now it seams to drive fine but runs terrible when idling. I was told not to drive it with check engine light flashing, because it mean there engine damage occurring and there's a more catastrophic failure.

The advice about driving it with the check engine light flashing or even if the engine has misfires is correct in that it can damage the catalytic converter.

You really should call the shop up that performed the tune up and have them check it out. Maybe something they put on is defective or they overlooked something.
