1999 Chevy Suburban Running Rough with Codes Sign In

THE CODES THAT SHOW UP ON MY SCANNER IS P0340 AND P0335. THAT MEANS ITS SOMETHING WITH THE CRANKSHAFT AND CAMSHAFT SENSOR. I REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT AND CAMSHAFT ABOUT 6 MONTHES AGO. SO IM NOT SURE WHAT IT IS AND WHY IT IS RUNNING ROUGH. ITS MISFIRING AND HAS A LITTLE CHIRP TO IT. ENGINE WAS REBUILT 5 MONTHES AGO. HELP?

#1 on the left of your keyboard, third key from the bottom. Press that before the next post please.

#2 Do you have access to a scan tool with the ability to show live data? Do you have a digital multimeter and know how to use it?

What engine do you have and how many miles are on it? 56 months is just shy of 5 years, so its not going to matter much at this point exactly how old it is, but rather the mileage.

I do have a multimeter. The engine was rebuilt 5 monthes ago. Im not sure if my scan tool can do a live scan. The engine is a 5.7 vortec with 115,000 miles on it.

Re: 1999 Chevy Suburban Running Rough with Codes Sign In

First do a visual check of the wiring at both the cam and the crank sensors. You're looking for anything rubbed through or damaged. I think one of them is inside an aluminized wrap to protect it from heat, and you will want to open that to look inside there. If you're not finding anything then check the plugs at the PCM to be sure there is no damage. While its running, wiggle the wiring to the PCM and see if that changes the way it runs. I'm sure one of the guys that has the flowchart and schematic will be seeing this thread and will hopefully throw their two cents in on exact wire testing procedures to follow to isolate the cause of this.

I found two new codes which are P0339 and P0341. I gonna try replacing the crankshaft sensor monday but the distributor was replaced when i rebuilt the engine. I can see the camshaft sensor already going bad.

Re: 1999 Chevy Suburban Running Rough with Codes Sign In

I wouldn't rush to replace any parts yet until this is troubleshooted to find the defective part. If it was just codes for one sensor you might get lucky throwing a sensor at it, might not. But when you get 4 codes covering 2 sensors at the same time I would say its a long shot that they both went bad at the same time. I think there is more to the story. Do you have a P0300 yet?

Kind of odd that your getting CKP and CMP performance codes. Would be interesting to see what their waveforms look like. The P0341 means the CMP isn't sychronized with the CKP? Did you have the distributor out or was it moved?

Are there any drive-ability issues along with these codes such as stalling, bucking, no start, etc.?

He did mention it running rough. Did Mr. Brakes do a tune-up for you recently?

It was recently tuned when the engine was reinstalled. Has brand new distributer and gaskets and cleaned everything. It first started not accelerating as fast, then would sputter up to speed, and now it barely moved 10 mph sputtering and chirping and misfiring.

Re: 1999 Chevy Suburban Running Rough with Codes Sign In

Can you tell where the chirp is coming from....

With codes you are getting, without a scope it will be pretty hard to trace that down, both are indicating the signals are cutting out and even stranger is there is no P1345 which you would get if the dist was out of position....

Are you sure on those code #s......I'm not showing a P0335 for the year & engine you posted... It wasn't a P0336?
