04 Hyundai Sanata Code P 2610 Soak Timer?? Sign In

04 Hyundai Sanata with 137,000 miles bought 3 weeks ago just set code P 2610 (ECM/PCM internal Engine Off Timer Performance).

"The Soak Timer, which is built into the ECM, measures 5 hours from when the engine is turned OFF, before the monitor is run."

It says it measures the EVAP It sounds as if one clock is measuring the other and has no other function. It gives a HINT: DTC 2610 is set if an internal ECM problem is detected. Diagnostic procedures are not required. ECM replacement is required."

I'm like the little boy who dropped his chewing gum in the hen house.

Can someone give me more info?

Engine? I don't even have the right car nor mileage. Bout the only thing I got right is the code. I was attempting to multitask, and I can't even single task.

It's a 2010 Sanata with 37,000 miles with the 4 cylinder engine.

So now what is a "soak timer", etc., etc.? and what sets that code?

This should still be covered under manufacture's warranty?

Since this is a newer vehicle, information is kind of limited for us that work in the independent shops. I did review the service information for P2610 and it is vary vague. I even tried to find the drive cycle for the evap system for that year and ran into a brick wall. I was briefed in class on emissions control on Honda few years back that there are certain portions of the EVAP self test that occur while the engine is off and the car is sitting. It might be the same on Hyundai.

The only thing that I can hypothesize is that the computer's engine timer in off mode has to be running for those tests to go through their cycle. The ECM has to know how long those tests have ran, hence the timer. I do know that the ECM on those do have an on timer which you can view in the data stream while the engine is running. It will actually display how long the engine has been running since the engine was started. It may be the same timer that is used when the engine is running as when when the engine is off, but I can't be sure about that.

I went to IATN to see if anyone has run into that code on Hyundai and no luck. I am sure as that year trickles down to the independents there will be more information on it in the future.

When the vehicle isn't running the ECM is running off the battery, so I think it would be important that your battery tests good and you have a good clean connection to your battery's post. It's possible if the ECU doesn't get the power it needs when the engine is turned off that timer code could set. If the battery and all that checks out good, more than likely there is an internal problem in the ECU.
