Unsurehello, im new but u got this covered. '01 Silverado, 2500HD, 8.1L Vin-G. 87,000ish with that wonderfull Allison trans. April of '08 the truck began to shut off when i was comming to a stop. Seemed to be when downshifting from 2nd to 1st. This was very intermintent, and always restarted. The shops said there were no codes stored, and they couldnt help unless it was happening..... duhhhhh. Also in april after the shut off began, i replaced the plugs (Proper heat rating, and gap) and the wires thinking that would be the problem. ran great for about 2 weeks, then,,,,, now the thing will not start anymore after 3 cranks like it use to do. I can crank it for 20 seconds (I dont) and it wont start, but it will start right away when i crank it the second time. Never starts on the first turn, no matter how long or short the cranking, only on the second. The truck has always ran rough, kind-a like a mis-fire, or little bit of a chug when its humid or wet. This truck was used everyday for the last three years, then it sat for about 5 days. About two weeks before this, it was shutting down more often and not always restarting. I could crank and crank and nothin. It began to shut off when i let it warm up in the a.m. for ten or so, but only after it got warm. If i sat there in the middle of the intersection Tongue for 1-3 minutes, it would restart. when i ran it for the first time after those 5 days, it seemed like its equilebrium was off (like when our equilebrium is off or we know we are catching a cold) but no codes or trouble lights. The next day, it began this shutting off crap maybe every six stops. Didnt have the means to check codes, but no trouble lights still. This went on for about 3 days then i had the codes read at a parts store. p0336 was displayed (the 85 year old man needed me to read the scanner cuz he couldnt see it, and he set it upCrazy). i spent 3 hours learing about this sensor in that auto store through different literature and people, bought the haynes manual to find after the fact that it dosnt cover Vin-g. earlier that same day the symptoms changed. Now it was the same day as a 12 inch wet snow fall, and -2 degress outside. The new symptoms are as follows.... Too much accellerator, chug and die if i didnt let off. It would run for a little, but i could not touch the accelerator or it would die. It would run untill i slowed way down, then it would die. In less then 2 miles it had died 7 times (all on the way to the auto store) and wouldnt always restart everytime. after milking it back to a home garage, i replaced the plugs and wires. Now sinse april and 7,000 miles, the plugs were completly Carboned up like it was running WOW rich. for as long as i can remember, it always SUCKED FUEL down (12mpg at first to currently 7mpg), but never noticed a fuel smell coming from the exaust, but always a very strong thick smell of exaust. it took 1.5 hours to get it 6 miles to home. After deflating my 4 tires to get this into my contractor storrage room / work shop / wifes annoyance room, 1.5 car garage and reinflating my tires, i have gone through the wiring harness that travel from the under hood buss fuse center, the PCM wiring harness, all the sensor connections, and wires associated with them, and spend unimaginable amount of hours finding the sensor itsself, installed the recall replacements new and improved CKP sensor, new head lights, day runner lamps, interior step lamps, and a new fuel and air filter and this da*$ thing wont even start now. It was unhooked from the batteries for a week at the minimium, and removed the PCM, the whole time also. Im told there may be a relearn that may need to happen but chevy tells me that more then likely not. After cranking the moter several times i was able to get the same codes back on my scanner, even after erasing them. The key was in the on position (>3 hours) with all accessories off, and my batteries are dead, well reading 10.21 amps and not enough to crank the motor, or show any readings on my dash. None of my Warning lights have turned on but they all work as the test have been done. The only thing that was not idiot proff as far as connectors, would be the wires to the starter. The purple wire travels to the under hood fuse box, and the others are the positive???? the starter selonid has three bolts, one purple wire, one traveling to a junction box on the fire wall (Passanger side by the aux battery) and one positive to the other battery in front. Somethings drawing the battery, and what? Starter turns, is it possible that it is turnning in the wrong direction if i reversed the selonid connection wires? Would the starter even turn if they were wrong? IF so or not would that drain the battery. I also replaced the blower motor resister for speed 1 and 2 did not work out of 5. sorry, oops. Is there a way to do a relearn on the CKP without getting it to a shop, or buying the thousand dollar scanner (Id take it in for a grand)? The only odd electrical thing found is that the radio circuit in the under hood center, when i pull the fuse, one side reads what the battery is putting out, and the other reads 0.70 volts. What???? Why?? Any help, guidance, even as a back yard mechanic (thats what i am right now), and advise would be greatly appricated. By the way if ur thinking about that recall, out of the VIN realm by 500 vehicles and GM C.S. says sorry for your issue. this is my work truck, currently not working............
Thanks
Leif
p.s. yea like leaf on a tree.....
