hey folks,
for starters i am a pretty big idiot when it comes to cars.
i'm in a band about to go out and play a show about 6 hours away, and to transport all our gear we roll out in a massive old 1983 gmc conversion van.
picked it up last summer off a mechanic, ran fine till this winter.
when i turn the key, it doesn't make a sound. doesn't try to turn over or anything. i thought this was maybe a problem with the starter itself and picked one up... much to my dismay i am 100 bucks poorer and my van won't start on its own.
it's started with a boost though... but the second we turn it off it won't start up on its own...
any clue what this might be? any help would be appreciated.

It starts with a boost (jump) and won't restart on it's own so that is probably a bad battery or battery connections right at the battery if that jump works. Then you should test the charging system that it is in fact putting out a charge and maintaining the battery and any assories you are using. The ignition wouldn't work if it didn't have some power to it,
