I just recently replaced the clutch in my 1980 F100. Since getting it back together, my temperature gauge has not worked at all. I'm guessing maybe something got knocked loose by either me or the guy that helped me do it. I know little-to-nothing about vehicles. I have not a clue as to where to look or what I'm looking for that might be causing the gauge not to work. If someone could please tell me what I should be looking for and where I should be looking for it, I would be very grateful. Thank you

Check the temp. guage sending unit and make sure the wire is connected.

And where might I find that on a in-line 6 cylinder 300? I really don't know much about vehicles at all.

I can't remember exactly where Ford put them back in 1980. Start by checking around the head and intake manifold. It is a small brass sensor that has one wire going to it.

I found the brass sensor you are talking about, but I can't find the wire anywhere. Where abouts would it be coming from?

This would break out of the harness that passes thru the firewall. This wire comes from the instrument cluster. You'll probably find it hanging by the back of the engine near the firewall. Since it is a single wire, it can hide pretty easily. Just start tracing the harness from the firewall into the engine compartment. Unless the wire got cut out, it will be hanging not too far away.
