I have a 1984 Dodge 4x4 w250 Ram pick up with a 5.9 liter engine.
Recently I installed a new ignition switch on steering column. Everything worked fine for a few weeks. Then the truck sat for a month and when I went to start it I had no power at all. I though the battery was discharged so I jump started it (no problem there) and noticed the gas gauge wasn't showing any fuel. I knew there was ! I went to the service station to add more anyway. When I tried to start the truck it wouldn't (only clicked like a dead battery) then I noticed that when I put it in park (auto transmission) that it wouldn't hold the truck from rolling. I recently replaced all the battery cables, battery, new starter, new fusible link as well as the ignition switch. My thought is that it all has something to do with the fact that if the park setting isn't working, it isn't letting the ignition switch do it's job. Helpppppppp

Sounds like there is a problem with the shift cable, either worn out bushings or out of adjustment for some reason.

That doesn't explain why it started with a jump though.
