I was driving my 1976 Pontiac fam. an when I was turning the battery moved an fell on the fender well an it shorted out the whole car, nothing works, it wont start or even try to light up. their is nothing, no power at all. gauges wont even move when turning on the key. I replaced the battery an still nothing. what did I do?? I know kill me now...

Check the fusible links at the starter. They are special fusible wires that melt internally. Pull on each one and see if any stretch. If they are bad, don't use regular wire.

Oh my! I'll try not to joke about that. Just maybe a side post cable end (pos more likely) got all AFUed inside if the cover is still on it and can't see it broken??

Yes, they sell fuse wire.

They may sell battery hold downs as well........Just a thought

thanks for the help.. I looked for a fuseable link an this car didn't have any, so checked all my wiring an it all looked good. so I took off the starter an alternator an took them in to a parts store to have them checked out. we found that the starter was good but the alternator was shot.. that's what had shorted out, nothing would work on it. I had blown out all the diodes an it turned out to be a $50.00 fix.. pluse I will use the battery hold down this time.. thanks again for the help.. razzzor72

Thanks for reporting the fix and good luck with the hold-down. They make assorted stuff for that. Will close as solved to keep the spammers out. Ask if you want it open again,
