no pulse @ injectors while cranking or at idle Sign In

someone help. my 92 astro w/tbi has a no pulse to injectors @ cranking or at idle. if i prime the tbi, it will start and at high rpm it responds good, but as soon as it goes to idle it dies, and i have to prime it again to start. i have changed fuel pump, pump relay even the computer with no change. pressure is within specs and constant. scanner sets no codes but advises not to drive vehicle

Try the ignition module; some also used the module to trigger/time the injector pulse.

No, not everything is monitored by the computer or will trigger a code. The computer assumes that certain things are happening as in this case; you don’t need a code to tell you that the thing isn’t running.
I won’t go off on a rant here but codes are not the be all, answer all that people think they are; they are a useful tool that will usually send us in a direction to find the problem; but I don’t think I’ve ever read a code that says. Hey stupid this or that is broken, replace me. LOL

Re: no pulse @ injectors while cranking or at idle Sign In

I’m not sure what to say; maybe have a look at sensor inputs? A TPS or MAP sensor could possibly cause this and still not set a code; for example a TPS range is approximately from .5 of a volt at closed throttle to 4.5 volts at wide open throttle. If this TPS is shorted to power and is giving lets say a 3 or 3.5 volts all the time, regardless of throttle position. The computer doesn’t know any better because the sensor input is still within range; won’t set a code but it may put the computer into clear flood mode and shut down injector pulse?
Like I said I’m not sure and I’m grasping at straws.
Tell you what; it’s –10 Celsius/14 Fahrenheit here in my part of Ontario. You send me airfare to LA and I’ll have a look at it first hand. I could use some sunshine and warmth right now. LOL (Just joking)

hey Dan.
tps is at .495- 4.90. disconnected it anyway and cranked the engine with no luck. a friend that is a "master mechanic" has been helping me off and on and he is stumpped also. but right around now, paying your air fair doesnt sound so bad after all.lol. im thinking that it's something simple were over looking but if you have any ideas i sure could use them. and if by any coincidence you happen to be in the neighborhood dont be shy and help me fix my van. lol

than'x Dan

Re: no pulse @ injectors while cranking or at idle Sign In

When you say you have no injector pulse at crank, did you confirm this with a noid light or did you see no fuel at injector? Also, is there spark at this time? If there's spark and the noid light is flashing, check to make sure the IAC is opening to allow air past the throttle plate. Also, let's remove the EGR Valve to make sure it is not stuck open and check it as you crank the engine to make sure it is not opening. If it is try a new EGR solenoid. It should not allow vacuum to EGR Valve at this time. If all checks out OK then you may want to replace the TBI Injector, it may simply be partially clogged. That's the best I can tell you right now as I don't have a wiring diagram for this vehicle here at home.

Re: no pulse @ injectors while cranking or at idle Sign In

hey Steve, the injectors were checked with an injector pulse tester, there is no pulse at cranking.. the iac was replased(i had an extra one in the van). we checked voltage at tps at w/o throtttle, voltage this time was actually -03 with the original and with a new tps. same at the MAP sensor. There was a voltage fluctuation at the ign. module (the wire that goes to the ign. coil)witch was anywhere between 11 volts to -03. My best guess is to look for a short anywhere along that cirquit. looking at the wire diagrahm they are all some-how connected. if u have any suggestions, i would appreciete it

than'x
