gen 4 Ford Taurus power outlet and more problems Sign In

Hello All! I have a 2003 Ford Taurus. Originally the cigarette lighter and the power outlet were not working and I have replaced the fuse and the power outlet, and they are still not working, what could cause the problem?

Stupid enough, after I reassembled the dashboard, the a/c control started not working properly. It is either off/defrost vent. Even in this morning it works perfectly. Would this be a bad contact issue or a vacuum problem? Is there any DIY-possible remedy that I can try (as I just poured out money to fix the wheel hub bearings.)

one last really really dumb question, what could I do to remove the radio if one of the brackets is broken? Going behind the dashboard?

Thank you so much in advance...

Did you check the fuse and and at the sockets for power and ground using a volt meter or 12 volt test lamp?

Might want to inspect the vacuum harness at the back of the panel to make sure it is plugged in properly and not leaking.

Oh...personally havn't ran into that problem with brackets breaking on those. Is this the factory radio? Did you use the special tools?

Yes, the fuse is now fine, but the voltage across the socket is 0V.

It was a tragedy Crazy. It was the factory radio and I use the DIN keys to open it. When I first started working on it I already had a really hard time trying to put the DIN key into the left brackets, and when I put out the radio it seemed to me the left brackets was quite worn by the time I opened it...Unsure

The cigar lighter and the power point socket are protected by different fuses.

Fuse 18 in the fuse box under the hood is for the cigar lighter

Fuse 13 in the fuse panel in the dash is for the power point

Did you check for power on the back side of the sockets?

Whoops, I only checked Fuse 13 and the power point (which is a pair, and that doesn't work), not the fuse 18.

And I did try probing the wire before trying installing the new socket, and it was 0V still.
