gauge malfunction

1/2 ton 2wheel drive pick-up

423100 miles
I've had this truck all of it's life...bought it with 3 miles on it. This truck originally had a 4.3L in it and had no problems other than lack of power. I overhauled original engine @272000 miles and transmission @305000 miles.
I purchased the 5.7L w/wiring harness out of a wrecked 1992 Suburban with 256000 miles on it(wrecked in the passenger side rear). Had engine installed @416000 miles and when I got it back from mechanic everything was working fine.
Here is my problem/problems > oil pressure gauge is pegged out, but there is no loss of oil pressure
> temp gauge is pegged out, but the engine never runs hot
Oil pressure gauge 1st and then about a thousand miles later, the temp gauge.
I feel that it is an electrical problem but not sure the correct route to finding out for sure and am not wanting to make unnecessary changes.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,

If you unplug the oil pressure sender, what happens to the gauge?

With the ignition turned on unplug the sender and then ground the tan wire to the engine block. What happens to the oil pressure gauge?

ok, with the key in on position, I unplugged connector for oil pressure sending unit and grounded tan wire to the engine block.....no change....gauge is still pegged out

You have one of two problems. Either you have a open in the sender wire going back to the instrument cluster or the cluster itself has an issue.
You'll probably end up having to remove the cluster and testing that circuit for an open. If the circuit checks out, you'll have to send the cluster out for repair.
