cruise control Sign In

i hope this is under the right category, but i have a 02 f150 XL and the cruise control doesnt work, the buttons on the steering wheel do light up it just wen i hit the buttons nothing happens at all, i have no dash light on or anything, i was thinking it might be a fuse, i just dont know what number it is or where that would be, the fuse box in the cab doesnt have a diagram on the cover, if its something that might be expensive to replace then its not a big deal, any help would be appreciated

There is no magic answer. You're just going to have to track the problem down using a wiring diagram and you really should have a professional scan tool also.

Re: cruise control Sign In

Do a visual inspection of the components for the cruise control system under the hood. Has the cruise deactivation pressure switch recall been done on this? Pull the connector off the pressure switch and make sure it isn't leaking brake fluid. The switch is on the master cylinder.

If the recall hasn't been done, unplug the switch and leave it that way until you can get it to the dealer to have the recall performed. If you have the VIN, you can check to see if the recall has been performed or not.

In the pic below the recall has been done on this vehicle. You can see the blue tagged modified wiring harness.

my truck does have that blue tag meaning it did get the recall part, i pulled the plug and there was a little bit of brake fluid inside it but i have yet to notice the brake fluid going down in the master cylinder so i dont believe there is a leak

Re: cruise control Sign In

If you have brake fluid inside the electrical plug, you do have a leak. The inside of the plug should be dry.

Re: cruise control Sign In

Nicks right. There shouldn't be any fluid in the sensor connector socket. If there is brake fluid inside the sensor socket, replace the sensor. You don't even have to bleed the brakes when you change it out. If the switch is registering your applying the brake when your really not, the cruise won't activate.
