Wipers only work on high Sign In

I have a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis and the windshield wipers only work on the high setting. They also do not return to the spot where they should and stop where ever they are when turned off. This makes for a fun timing game while driving around town. Any thoughts on how to fix it?

Re: Wipers only work on high Sign In

Most likely cause is the wiper motor itself. The reason they do not stop in the proper place is the park circuit in the wiper motor.

Replace the intermittent wiper delay module! There is obviously nothing wrong with the motor if it works on high. The delay module controls not only the intermittent wipers, it also controls low speed, washer pump, and wiper park. The dealer is the only place to get one.

Hey steve0182. If you read the post again, you should notice the poster stated that the wipers stop wherever they are switched off. That is indicitave of a bad park circuit in the wiper motor. Not disputing your answer, just going by over 40 years experience. 95% of the time it has been the wiper motor, about 3 percent it has been the wiper switch and the remaining 2 percent goes to wiper delay module or the GEM.

Re: Wipers only work on high Sign In

I understand what you are saying. But, the power goes through the delay module to the wiper motor. So when the wipers work on high and he turns the switch off, all power is removed from the motor so it will not park. I have been burned in the past by Ford and the way they wire these circuits. I have learned over the years that the delay module controls the park as well as low speeds. Didn't mean to step on your foot, but I've been there with Ford.
