Windshield Wipers Lose Power, Radio Flickers on and off Sign In

I was driving to work today in my 1994 Mazda Protege, and my radio started to flicker on and off. I also noticed the dashboard clock was only half viewable, and then my windshield wipers would slow to a stop and then begin working again. I couldn't tell if my headlights were working (as it was very rainy out). I'm thinking maybe the battery cables are loose. It doesn't seem like it could be the alternator as everything is coming back on.
Any ideas?

The age of the battery matters. Put a volt meter on it and see what it can do. If older just trash it and check again. Your alternator will burn out if it has to work too hard.

If the car still starts up on its own there must be something working. Just tighten up battery cable connections if you think they are loose???? T

If the regulator inside the alternator is on its way out, the symptoms you described are very common. This could very well be an alternator problem and it has to be tested as well as the battery.
