What is going to happen if I fail to use ring terminals on an ANL fuse?

What is going to happen if I fail to use ring terminals on an ANL fuse? Sign In

Google doesn't give me an answer.

I have an 1100W inverter that I have installed in my car and I want to splice in an 150 AMP ANL fuse in the 4 AWG power wire. However, I have no crimping tool or any other way to fasten ring terminals to the end of the cut line. I stripped back the wire about 3/8. What is going to happen if I simply bolt down exposed wire into the fuse ends without utilizing a ring terminal? If you don't understand what I am talking about see this video:

The ring terminals appear @ 1:24 in the video. I don't have those, just bare wire.

Is the exposed wire, even inside the plastic fuse body, at risk of shorting? Everything I get as a result of research assumes that one uses a ring terminal but no one states why this is necessary or what happens if one doesn't

Not sure what your confused about? Just ask at a parts store or electrical supply place for what I'd call "Eyelet" ends like for battery cables for a car/truck and solder those in with shrink tubing over areas that are exposed.


Other is get eyelet ends and the plier that crimps ends on to your liking/needs.


That fuse and box has a hole where you would mount it OUR of harm's way so do so.


There's no mention in your post of what you need power for or if from a vehicle or just to a charged proper battery? If you do that do get a very high end battery that tolerates "Deep Cycle" use rated for the amps you'll require.
Check out brand name "OPTIMA" SIX PACK BATTERIES (12V) with designation the blue top type. No liquid or vapor should come from it and can be mounted upside down even meant to take abuse and run low on charge and fully recover without harm to it,

No, you can't simply start twisting wires around terminals when carrying that kind of current.

You need to either get a crimper or solder or preferably both.

Yes, I already have an Optima Yellowtop installed in the car. I drilled a whole in the firewall and installed a firewall grommet/bushing. I put conduit around the wires in the engine bay. Etc. etc. The only task left is to install the fuse. Are you happy now?

Now the moderator says I can't just wrap the wires around the fuse terminals. Ok. I believe you. BUT WHY? What the logical explanation for why that is the case? Bossing people around might make for a good moderator but it doesn't do anything to help transfuse knowledge. So help me to understand.

Don't get too mouthy here. You easily forget this is free help that we have no obligation to give you.

The reason is the cable is carrying high current and it needs an absolutely solid connection through every strand. Otherwise it will create high resistance at the connection and damage the wires which will lead to overheating at the connection.

This whole thing leads me to believe that you are installing a high amp draw component like an amplifier that the OEM electrical system was not built to handle so our advice is not to do that.
