Should engine run with fuel pump relay disconnected

I have been told that if I disconnect the fuel pump relay on the firewall of my '93 chevy 5.7l the engine should stay running. If it stops running the oil pressure switch is faulty. Is this true? What does the oil pressure switch have to do with the fuel pump relay?

The oil pressure switch is a backup circuit. It tells the PCM oil pressure and when it gets to a predetermined pressure, the PCM closes the fuel pump circuit. This is usually done however thru the fuel pump relay. So if you pull the relay out, the pump circuit should not work.
