Hey all

I have a Ford Chateau 351win 5.8L v8. It has a vanguard motor home body on it.
I am having issues locating a problem with the tail light assembly (indicator reverse and stop) not working. I have checked the bulbs, found there is no power to the tail light itself. All other lights are working great. It seems to run off the other light in the diagrams but I can't see an issue with the wiring in the left rear light. .

Also which might be related my horn stopped working when I pressed it one day and two 12v jacks for charging my phone have stopped working. I don't know it'll this was at the same time or not.

I have checked fuses and they seem to all be working.

Another note one time I put a cable on the wrong charge on the battery and fried the earth cable and replaced it. Could that have done something?

Please help

Thanks
Michael

Did all your problems start after this? What did that cable go to?

I put the - on the + or vice versa. Was just on auto mode and had a brain fart.
It melted the earthing cable from the battery to the car. I have since replaced that fried cable. Although it could have done damage elsewhere, I'm not sure

No the 12v was first. The horn just stopped working one day and I was using it. I'm not sure when the light stopped though.

It's a 1978 ford chateau

Your lucky because if it was fuel injected, the computer would have probably been fried along with the cable.

Don't have a wiring diagram for that at the moment. What are you using to test the circuits?

I have a photo. I can send a wiring diagram and tail wiring diagram. I am on my phone at the moment so it's hard to upload a photo into here.

I deleted your addy because the spammers would have a field day with that and load your mail box up with garbage.

If you get the time, upload it to a hosting site and post the link in here. That way others can see what your seeing as a wiring diagram.

Are you using a 12 volt test lamp or a DVOM to check circuits with?

I used a 12v and then had a shop test it and they checked with their tester.

I believe this link will take you to the wiring diagrams :)

So, the issue with the brake and reverse lamps is in the right tail lamp? Do the right rear turn signals work?

Well, that's a half of a wiring diagram.

No, none of the signals in that assembley work. Yes in the right tail lamp

The brake and turn signal use the same circuit after the turn signal switch. Finding the connector between the vehicle's lighting harness and the camper portion would be a good place to make checks for power for the right turn/brake lamp power feed. That would tell you if the problem is on the camper side or the chassis side.

Don't think the horn is involved in the brake lamp circuit though. If you can't find the connector, you could make your checks at the turn signal switch. Don't know the wiring color for the turn signal switch right rear brake/turn lamp circuit. Could be orange/black.

The reverse lamps are wired in parallel, so if one works and the other doesn't, you definitely have something wrong in the camper portion of the wiring between the left and right reverse lamps. You really should inspect the wiring back there really good.
