Remote start fails to start car on first try. Sign In

Hi everyone, I have a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant, 77k miles, 2.4 liter 4 cylinder. When I attempt to start the car with the remote start it will crank the engine, but will not turn over. Then in about 30 seconds it will retry to start the car on its own and this time it will start. I noticed this mainly happens in the winter time when it's cold out. I think the brand of the remote start is Avital (that's what it says on the remote).

I'm not sure if this is related to the problem, but my car has a relatively weak battery. It will die in about a week if I don't use the car in the summer and ever quicker in the winter.

Also, my mom has the same remote start installed in her 2002 Ford Focus and hers works fine.

Thanks for the help.

If the car has a weak battery or plain doesn't run perfectly if you started it by key why are you blaming it on a remote that if aftermarket just hacked into a system that can't fix your car for you and force it to run properly?

Another vehicle without the problem means nothing,

The cars starts fine with a key every time. In the summer the remote start works without any problems. This problem only happens in the winter when its cold.

If you think the battery is weak, you should have it tested first. If the battery is good, you need to do a parasitic draw test to figure out what is drawing the battery down.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

If it starts by key properly all the time then why did you mention a weak battery? That would only be worse when cold and if this doesn't like to start first try every time by just turning key I think any remote will default to not working or hope so.

Car has to be in total proper running order first then if so (check battery and replace if needed) some timed "thing" to do with remote start is probably a problem as all I've known of (very few) shut down after so many minutes no matter what until real key is in such that it knows not to stay running all day unattended.

With just this info I don't think the car can just start and run without quickly playing with the gas pedal or something and stalls so may not try again by remote and that isn't the problem but the car is in need,
