RPM guage falls to zero while driving. Sign In

Hi everyone I would appreciate any help you can give as this issue is starting to frustrate me greatly. My check engine light for my 2005 KIA Optima started to come on and then stay on for a minute or two and then turn off. No performance issues, I didn't think much of it. then later the check engine light would come on and the car would be come sluggish and jerky. Then the check engine light just stayed on. I went to AutoZone to run the code and it came back as the throttle position sensor needing to be replaced.(dont remember the code number off hand) I brought it into my garage whom I very much trust and respect and he tried putting in an after market TPS. Didn't work same problems. Then he put in a dealer one TPS and we thought we had the problem licked. A couple days later while driving down the road the RPM gage on the dash dropped down to zero but no preformace change. The check engine light came on and the car become sluggish while driving. The Rpm gage will go back up to normal and the check engine light would turn off, the car will run fine. This happened multiple times in the next week but it wasn't saving a code when the light turned on and my mechanic couldn't duplicate it himself. Finally my wife was driving down the road and said the engine light came on and the car started "to shake for about 20 seconds." The light stayed on and we brought it in and the code said it was misfiring on 1 and 2. Just got the coils, plugs, and plug wires replaced yesterday. My wife drives to work this morning and the RPM gage drops to zero and the light comes on and becomes sluggish. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
Aaron

There is no code that tells you to replace anything. Codes merely supply info for a tech to further investigate and that has not been done.

We need the exact code numbers of any and all codes being stored now.

The first code was P0122. I don't know what the second code was as he checked it, time me what it meant, checked and fixed it.

Is that same code setting now since the sensor was changed?

You also need to list an engine size.

Sorry it's the smaller engine the 4 cylinder. And as far as the code, that's the problem we brought it in there and there was no code saved but the check engine last had gone on and turned off multiple times.

If the check engine light came on and the battery hasn't been disconnected, then there will be a code stored in memory.

That is however what happened. Light turned on for a minute or so and then turned off at least 4 times. We brought it in and there was no code stored.
Just brought it in with the light on and codes came on for all 4 miss firing this time. P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304. He checked the plugs, sprayed them down, no misfiring. He cleared to code, told me to let hom know if they come back on. Said if they do he's "going to have to do some digging around."
