Problem changing a light bulb :)

Greetings,
I recently purchased a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE and it is time to change the headlight bulbs (9008/H13).
Since the majority of my night time driving is on rural gravel roads I've decided to try the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra bulbs.
The problem is the old headlight bulbs are two pieces, the bulb itself and a male end that fits into the female socket.
The new Ultra's are one piece.
It does not matter if I slide the red lock or not, the male part of the bulb assembly comes off and I can't get it out of the socket.
Of course I tried prying it out and the plastic breaks away. But, this did allow me to see that the red locking mechanism is still engaged when the red clip is pulled out.
I can use a screwdriver :) to lift up the clip but I need a third hand to pull it out.
There must be a "trick" to doing this ?
Plan B is to cut them off and install new sockets with ceramic connectors....

They look identical to me

Sometimes these things stick. Grab the red clip with a needlenose pliers and press in. Then depress the release tab and wiggle while you pull back. Its a pain, but doable.
Good idea on the bulbs. I put a set in for my girl and was impressed with how good the lighting is.

They are identical.
But, the original bulb is not permanently attached to the bottom male part, it slides onto three pins.

And the answer is....
The jaws are thin enough to slip inside the socket, the ends are rounded and easily slipped under and pushed up on the lock.
New bulbs installed and lenses polished. Bring on the night
