Power Door Lock 98 Ford Explorer (drivers door only) Sign In

Tongue I just bought a 1998 Explorer. When I use the power door locks all the doors lock except the drivers door. When I use the key in the drivers door it doesn't seem to do anything. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Can yo hear anything in the door when you use the power locks? If the key does not operate the lock manually, probably a lock rod has come off the latch. You need to pull door panel to see what is out of place.

I removed the interior door panel and found some type of rod that looked out of place it was leaning against the outer door panel just under outer lock. I looked for someplace for it to go but was unsuccessful. After that I had no idea what to do with it..................also when I insert the key and turn it (in the drivers door) nothing happens. Any light you could shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

Is the rod attached to the latch mechanism? If so, there is a little metal or plastic piece on the back of the key lock that it goes in. The little holders may be broken off the back of the lock allowing the rod to fall out. About the only place to get them is the salvage yard or dealer.

I think that just may be it.........is there any other name that the holder goes by so I can describe it to the guy at the salvage yard?

Thanks,

It's probably that holder as way2old said and I'll just add that they sometimes have metal carb clips that will work. They are left and right handed and should be cheap but at the price of gas if you find them get both unless you are sure which one, T

Just ask the salvage yard if they have a complete lock cylinder assembly. The piece you want is attached to the inside of the cylinder. I think it is held in place with a small "C" clip. Make sure there is a plastic cap like thing in the opening that has a locking piece of plastic on each part of the "V".
