Park light and Turn signal short Sign In

I have an 88' S15 Jimmy, within the last month or so, when I turn the park lights on the following happens: the left turn signal indicator comes on and stays on, the front left hand park light does not turn on. When I go to activate the left turn signal, turn signal indicator and turn signal light itself both flash but very slowly. What could the problems be?

Try checking the light bulbs on the affected side, both front and rear. They are a dual element bulb, and as one element burns out, the fillament will lie against the other, creating a path back to your dash indicator. I have seen this many times. Good luck and keep me posted.

Thanks for the quick reply but I checked all of the bulbs, the only one that seemed strange is the left turn signal bulb itself, one of the contacts to the element doesnt appear to be in contact but it still lights?! strange.

With the parking lights on so the turn indicator is lit try this. Remove one light bulb at a time and see if the light for the turn goes out. If it does replace that bulb

Stupid me, I hadnt checked the left hand side front marker lamp, I was only checking the left hand side park/turn lamp. So while I was out there, the left hand side front marker lamp doesnt come on at all, I swapped that bulb into a socket that i knew was working and the bulb is fine, so its got to do with the marker lamp socket, right?

Re: Park light and Turn signal short Sign In

well, after checking the wiring between the marker lamp and the park/turn lamp, and trying to figure this problem out, it seems to have fixed itself, all of a sudden the marker lamp started to work and the indicator wasnt turning on with the park lights and it seems to all be working correctly, but for how long? it must be a short somewhere that i unknowingly undid...for now, till it shorts again...to be continued
