No windows, locks, interior lights, dashboard lights, etc...No Idea Sign In

2008 Hyundai Sonata
There are a bunch of electrical items not working. Power windows, locks, dashboard lights, interior lights, rear defrost and I'm sure some more. I checked one of the fuses under the hood and looked fine but I'm lost as to where to start. I appreciate the help!
Are there breakers that power all of these items vs. fuses? I can't imagine them all having the same fuse and all the separate ones being messed up

Check fuses with a test light not just looks. If no power to either side on the one or more you need then the hunt for where it's lost power but know fuses are good first as said,

T Any idea what fuses to start looking at? Based on the diagram I can't tell what ones I should be checking???

Owner's manual may be a lot of help. You are missing so much stuff it no doubt starts with a maxi fuse under hood then breaks down to smaller ones with smaller fuses.

If the major power isn't getting thru the fuse to interior items you listed try just the fuse. If it blow right away there's a major short.

If no power to fuse on either side (you don't have to take them out to check) then you need to find out why. That could be the box itself or power to it thru fusible like wiring - IDK for sure but if nothing when it should be empowered you look and test on back to where power is lost.

No full diagrams available from me. AllDataDIY will sell you everything if want to do the chasing down of what it goes thru along the way but doesn't really tell you where it's routed.

Again - test fuses for power with a test light not by looks of the fuse and go from there,

I have the owners manual and will refer to that and I'll see if I can find a full diagram as well. So, basically just take a light tester and test each "side" of the fuse, correct? I know that seems like probably a pretty silly question but just want to make sure I'm testing them properly. Thanks for the help. I do appreciate it!

Simple test light like this you just poke the exposes metal of each side of fuse and handle lights - it's good. Tester is like 5-10 bucks and should have one anyway............

^^ Pics may expire or not show but that type is fine.

It's when nothing happens at either side of a fuse you start looking for the obvious problem. Is it corroded or burnt wire under the box that holds it or evidence of wires going to it?

I can't believe pwr windows and interior lights are both on same interior fuse so guess it's a larger fuse under hood. That or where the wires travel to interior to fuse box.

Engine to run postion, lighting on and things that should work then test for the power. Again, if fuse instantly blows if you find one you hunt for the short or overloaded circuit for that fuse,

Thanks for the quick reply. I have electrical testers. I just wanted to make sure I am doing it the correct was as all my testers have 2 prongs. Yeah, I'm a bit worried that SO MANY things are not working.

YOU can do this with other type testers, that one just cheap and easy different styles of them just ground the alligator clip and test light on known power to see it works then touch tiny metal of fuse at each end to watch handle light - that's it.

Other mult testers with just volts reading or not would work too just more cumbersome.

Plain test light I showed just make sure you find good metal (body bolts, engine metals etc.) for a ground or it wont work at all. Do make sure dang thing is working before you get WRONG info!

Re: No windows, locks, interior lights, dashboard lights, etc...No Idea Sign In

So, I started out by testing the fuses under the hood. Here’s what I found.

Under the hood:
Regular Fuses- All Lit Up

Fusible Link- I didn’t know if I should try to take the cap off them so I pulled them and used the tester on the contact. They all lit up and all looked good by appearance

4 Big Black Ones Up Top- These list as H/LP LO, H/LP HI, Starter & Main. Since they’re black, I had to do the same thing and remove them and test the contacts not knowing if something is potentially wrong. All lit and visually they looked fine. I will say that not every metal contact on there lit it up but that be simply how it’s supposed to work through the fuse. Just an observation. For example, if there were 4 pieces of metal in there, some only read 2 or 3 but again, that may be normal

6 Solid White or Blue Near Bottom- These list as ATM CONT, F/Pump, Wiper, A/CON, FOG L/P & Horn…Same as the black ones. Had to pull to test the contacts, all lit and they too had a couple where not all the contacts registered on the tester but again, I don’t know if that is normal.

Inside under the steering wheel fuses-
These have NO POWER to them. Even if I swap out fuses, they still don’t register with the light tester

Far Bottom Left (I think this is 36- MRR HTD listed on the plastic piece)
Far Bottom Right (I think this is 29- START listed on the plastic piece)
Middle Far left- (I think this is 20- P/WDW RH listed on the plastic piece)
Middle Far left 2nd just to the right of above (I think this is 19 P/WDW RR LH listed on the plastic piece)
Top Far Left (I think this is 8- TAIL LH listed on the plastic piece)
Top Far Left 2nd just to the right of the above (I think this is 7 TAIL RH listed on the plastic piece)

There is more descriptions in the owners manual of the fuses in the car if that helps.

I’m lost!!!

Re: No windows, locks, interior lights, dashboard lights, etc...No Idea Sign In

? Diagrams were lousy for what I could find. I was hoping you'd find a loss under hood box before it sent power inside. From there it should break down from constant power to the assorted fused items but if not getting into there at all there's the issue IMO so far.

What to do? > Is there any warranty left on a 2008 Hyundai for this car? If not you may want to buy the full repair manual on line like AllDataDIY or send this out.

If you have to pull a relay type fuse item out to check for power that is only partial info as inside those it passes on from one to another when item is requested so not conclusive with just a power test so easy and do NOT go jumping things.

Do always use the correct rated fuse anything be it a fuse or wire if blown but seems not so far.

I've reached all the info I can reach and isn't easy to view in my device but will show a sample of what you can get out there and follow the path to the break in power. These do NOT show where the wiring or connection are in the vehicle, you are supposed to know where to look just FYI.

Sample:

Not what wanted but shows the idea. Power in up top then it breaks into fused items if you can read that.

It's probably time for help if you can OR buy more info as it's sold not all free out there. Not just a common book.

If for any reason this was caused by some trauma like high water, accident or prior work on something note that.

If another here doesn't have more for ideas or info for you this needs help now unless you plain see a broken or burned something and didn't say that so lost as well and would be getting more info myself if it was my own to find and fix,

Pic one you like. Should show free samples of some car to peruse then buy and I think AllData is now $27.50USD for a year with money back if not satisfied? Others probably too.

I don't subscribe to any yet as long done with this stuff and too costly to have it to volunteer here which we all do. Good luck. If too much for you send it out. The right tech might find this in no time - just can't say for sure,

I deleted your link because they are not allowed.

The Chilton book is garbage but the other one is the Hyundai factory site and should have accurate details. Alldata is the same system we use commercially.
