Neutral Safety Switch Problems???

More car problems, I got into my Jeep today after work I turn the key but the engine wont start and the starter wont turn. I called my friend and we tried several things and finally the last thing he told me to try was to put the Jeep in neutral and try starting it, all went well. He thinks I am having problems with my neutral safety switch, does this sound accurate? BTW we just put a use tranny in about 2 weeks ago.

Yep, sounds like he's on the right track. The switch could be adjustable also so check that before you replace it.

Would you recommend cleaning and adjust the switch or would it be cheaper to get a brand new one. I checked the price this morning and they are only 13 bucks.

Cleaning isn't an issue but definitely try adjusting it. Even if you replace it, you will have to adjust the new one.
It should rotate on the screws to determine what position on the gearshift it engages. It may just be missing park. Adjust it so it's centered on neutral.

As long as you can get it started, it's not a problem but it may get worse than it is now and not start at all.

Ok guys I had the neutral safety switch put in about 2 weeks ago and the jeep was great but this morning it did the same thing, before I had the switch put it in it was giving me problems once a week so I assumed I was good to go when I didnt have any problems for two weeks. I took it back to the shop that put the switch in they think I have problems with my gear box, every time he would put the gear box in reverse and back to park the jeep wouldnt start, he did push the gear box into park a little harder and it started. Any thoughts?

Sounds like the switch is just out of adjustment. Make sure there is no wear in the connections for the shift cable that would give it too much play.

Make sure they double check that the shift linkage isn't too sloppy causing the switch to lag behind.

The gear box has nothing to do with it. The switch is on the outside and gets triggered first.
It shouldn't cost more that a half hour labor to adjust it at whatever their labor rate is.

I already did.
Either the shift linkage has too much play in it so the switch is being left behind or the switch is out of adjustment. Just go get it checked.
