Need Help with a 1992 lexus es300 Alternator Sign In

I have a 1992 lexus es300, i was driving it yesterday and i simply rolled down the window and out of nowhere the battery light comes on. I quickly drive it to my mechanic, on the way there whenever i was sitting at idle at a stop light the car would act as if it were going to shut off, i put it in neutral and gassed it up to keep the car alive. Brought it to my mechanic, he says its the alternator...he fixes it, puts a new alternator in. So as im leaving i roll down the window again, and just as i suspected the battery light came on again. he put in a new alternator today, and i told him about the window problem, he tests it drives it around everything was fine, i got in the car ready to leave but one more time i rolled down the passenger side window, and the battery light comes on again. He doesnt know what keeps frying the alternator...has anyone experienced this problem before? or does anyone know whats going on, im covered for a 2 year warranty for the alternator, but it gets annoying to keep going back..Thanks!

Folks are here - relax! It can take a while to check out the zillion posts that come by.

No solid ideas for you from me. It seems like the alternator(s) are the problem themselves. The only connection I can think of is that the PW does use a fair amount of juice and if a new alternator is put in a near dead battery it's working so hard just to restore the charge in the battery (subject of a problem with it too) with any added load on it, it burns it up.

Your first post indicated the battery was low enough to begin making the engine run improperly which could have been the alternator to begin with but that battery was run down and they don't hold full amps alone all that long with needed electric fuel pump, and assorted electronics for ignition when not helped along by the alternator.

When alternator is a problem or a low battery a problem for any reason it should have the battery charged up and checked before asking the alt to do all the work at once. Battery and Alt work as a team and either one can hurt the other. Just a thought as to why this could happen,

T

thanks for the response, my mechanic put a new battery and alternator in yesterday. He thinks its a short, but doesnt have a clue were to begin looking, others think its a power window relay.

just wanted everyone to know that i solved the problem, seems as though the wiring wasnt right, everything was being sent to the alternator and fuse box in the engine...re-wired and now everythings great. Thanks!
