Light switch for 63 Ford galaxy 500 Sign In

Hello everybody. This is my first time posting and look forward to some feedback.

I'm looking to buy a 63 Ford galaxy 500xl 352 4 door and the light switch just let go and let off a bit of smoke. The wipers were working before this happened and now they are not. is it possible that these two are connected? The car is original and do you think this is an easy fix or is this a big warning sign about buying this car. Looking for fatherly advice!

Thank you!

This is to say you haven't purchased it yet? Let seller fix it first. Floor button if that switch is just high/low beam. If pull switch for on, running lights and dome light I don't recall but could be close to wiper switch wiring.

Easy fixes, parts and making it look and behave exactly right will count if car is nice enough no hack work - done right. Are you up to owning and tending to an antique car? A good place to keep it?

Sounds like you may have burnt out a fusible link which is special fuse wire that feeds those circuits.

Looking at a wiring diagram the in dash headlight switch & the fuse block are one and the same unit on this car. How accurate this diagram is I'm not sure?
What you need to find out is whether the headlight switch shorted to ground or is there something wrong with the wipers that took out its fuse and let some smoke out of the headlight switch?
This could be a very simple repair or it could mean a rewire of a 49 year old car?

Thanks for the reply. Ive got an old Cordoba now and love tinkering around with it. I'm unfamiliar with electrical work. I've got a place to store the Ford and really appreciate your advice. Thanks

I hadn't looked at a wiring diagram before this but i dug this one out from Mitchell and these diagram are hard to follow but they seem to share a circuit breaker.

I probably have spare parts for the thing! Now if I can find them that's another issue entirely.

"Cordoba?" That's a new car. Does it have the famous "Corinthian Leather" seating that Ricardo Montalban so loved?

TV ad for the thing, links not generally allowed but I doubt new ones are available..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfKHBB4vt4c .

Geez - getting old is fun. They say your memory is the second thing to go>>>>> Can't recall what the first wasMad
