I have a 1992 Chevy 1500 1/2ton 4.3L 6 cylinder 230K miles. Been having this
problem this entire past week. Whenever i turn the key to acessory the
inj a+b fuse will break. I know this is the fuse for the fuel pump,
fuel injection. I have replaced the fuel pump, the fuel pump relay, i
have looked at the wires and none of them seem to be bare or messed up.
After all this the fuse still keeps breaking when i turn the key to
acessory. Ive had multiple people over to look at it and none can think
of what could be the cause of this issue. I used a meter and did see
that the fuel pump isnt reading quite as high as it should be but not
extremely low. If anyone could help me troubleshoot this id greatly
appreciate it. Thanks

I don't know where you get the idea that powers the fuel pump because that doesn't seem too be the case. It powers the 2 fuel injectors. You can have a short anywhere in that harness or in the injector itself. Try unplugging the injectors and see if it blows the fuse then. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

You have an electrical short that has to be found so you are going to need someone to do it for you.

I would try removing the small wiring harness out of the TBI unit and inspect the wire going through the grommet that supposedly protects the wires at the TBI. If things are ok there; begin following the red and white wires all the way back to the fuse panel. Along the way you will fine a splice where the white and red wires join and then a single red will continue to the fuse panel. You may need to actually open the wiring harness up and trace the wires; not that hard but very time consuming. Instead of constantly blowing fuses while checking this; you could rig up a test lamp from a sealed beam headlight, the old style glass headlights. Connect a couple of jumper wires to the terminals of the headlight; whatever way you want as long as the headlight lights when the jumpers are connected to battery pos & neg. Now pull the AB fuse and connect the jumper wires across the terminals in the fuse box cavity; one jumper to either terminal. While the short to ground that's blowing the fuse is present the headlight will light with the ignition on. As soon as you find the short the headlight will go out. Why I say use a headlight, is because it can handle the current flow and not burn up any wiring. The headlight will however get very hot and could burn a hole through you seat or carpeting; don't ask how I know that will happen. LOL Dan. Canadian "EH"

Well I didn't actually burn a hole through the seat; but left what looked like a brown Sh!t stain. LOL But the headlight was sitting just perfect to shine through the windshield, for me to see it from under the hood. That's all that matter at the time; but I did get the OH crap feeling when I removed the headlight. LOL Made $175. to fix the short; but cost me $275. to have the seat repaired. School costs money; I guess? LOL Dan. Canadian "EH"
