Hello,
I’ve been having issues with my 2007 Ford Focus front driver side headlight. The high beams always would work but the regular headlights would be intermittent (normally they would come on and then go off after 10 minutes or so). I did some googling and found the socket itself might be the problem. Here is a picture of the blackened old headlight socket: https://ibb.co/QCZDxG5
So I bought a new, high temperature headlight socket and installed it. I kept the wiring the same (left to right) for each socket. See this picture for the side by side (I have no idea why they didn’t have these color code the same). https://ibb.co/8Pn3MgZ

Note: the left hand side picture is the old burnt socket (still attached) and the right hand side socket is the new one. I twisted and soldered the wires as shown below:
Old socket | New Socket
White -> Blue
Black -> Yellow
Blue -> Black
The good news is that my regular lights now work perfectly. However, my high beams do not work. Whenever I turn my high beams on, the headlight simply goes out (odd). I have no idea why my high beams no won’t work. I am fairly confident that I soldered all of the cables correctly, and I wrapped plenty of electric tape around them to ensure that there are no shorts between wires.
Can you think what the problem might be or any troubleshooting recommendations?
Do you think that I screwed up the wiring?
Thank you,
James

Hi James. I tried to make pics auto show but were way to large let it be. IDK why if it was just color and "continuity matched should have worked but you did say "intermittent" before you did anything.
So for now if that side is out now or both sides for "high" beams IDK where it failed. Did you use the same bulbs that would work at least intermittently? Hmmm - probably new to OE spec or just maybe poke and check for power and ground when it's NOT working where the failure is dropping out right there before spliced in.

Hate to poke wire exposed avoid that if at all possible check solder if you can get at it and there is "liquid" electrical tape to seal up check that while intact.

Check on bulbs I'm sure fast to get new ones are costly but by time and miles many bulbs don't last much more for hours of use, some do if original and untouched other than this IMO not a waste,

Hi T,
Thanks for the reply.
Just following up, I was able to get it to work. I ended up trying a new bulb and now both the regular beams and the high beams work.I'm not sure what was wrong with the old bulb, but replacing that fixed the problem. Perhaps the melted connector (See the first picture in my original post) degraded the bulb in some way.All the same, thanks for your help.
Best,James

Great! It's was presumed if socket hot so was bulb. That's why threads by me get loooong. Of course it's the other side of a connector. In many you just toss bulbs by hours and or age just anyway there is a limit to how long they are good.
For now will call this solved and close out the thread good luck that it lasts now.

Again, good luck, can re-open upon request if you wish, Tom
