Car beeps when turned off and with no key... kills battery after a month or 2

I have a 1997 saturn SL1 wagon. I have been having an issue going on for quite a while where the car beeps at me when shut off. Its the kind of beep that happens when you leave on an electrical accessory (like headlights) or leave the key in your ignition. naturally I always double check that the electrical accessories are off, the key is in my pocket, and the keyhole cylinder is popped out. This issue has killed my battery several times, but always takes a month or 2 to do so. I have already replaced my battery. When the door shuts the beeping stops. I don't know very much about ignitions (but do know basic electronics), I got the basic idea that there is a keyhole cylinder, an ignition switch, a sensor, and some wires. I cant even find a good website to give me the details on how an ignition works. I have read a bit about parasitic draws but since it takes a month or more to kill my battery I really think this has something to do with my ignition. I'm hoping someone can really just steer me in the right direction of which part may be causing this or at least a decent site to explain the nitty gritty details of how one works (hopefully for mine specifically). I need more details because I use this car for business so I am in a bit of a time crunch and dont have money to be playing the guessing game (or pay a mechanic 240$ to replace a 25$ part). PS: another concern is the airbag. Do I have to worry about setting off the airbag if the battery is unplugged?

another concern is the airbag. Do I have to worry about setting off the airbag if the battery is unplugged? Yes and No. The air bag control module(s) do retain power for several minutes if the battery becomes disconnected. Once the power is drained, the airbag inflaters and or seat belt pretensioners can't be set off by the controller itself. Now, if your handling airbag inflaters, static electricity could possibly set one off if you happen to be messing around with the connections. An ohm meter has enough current to set off an air bag inflater also, so you should never use an ohm meter with an inflater connected or use an ohm meter on an inflater or seat belt pretensioner. Your working with explosives, so be sure to follow manufacture's warnings and procedures or let a prefessional take care of it. And yes an air bag can really mess you up or even break your neck. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
