Brake lights stuck on, and error code "P1297: ELD voltage low" Sign In

1997
Acura
Integra
1.8 L 4-cylinder
117,500 miles

So my brake lights stay on, whether I'm hitting the pedal or not, and they stay on when the car is off. In the meantime I keep the battery disconnected. Just before this problem started, I got a Maintenance required, the code given was P1297: ELD voltage low.

I'm wondering if these things are connected, coincidental, or indicative of a larger problem?

Thanks

Look at where the brake switch plunger contacts. There should be a little pad. Those pads are known for crumbling apart.

More than likely the ELD is bad in the fuse panel which was common.

The brake lights are fixed, replaced the plastic bumper, but 'm having issues with the ELD. I want to replace it but I can't find just the ELD, been to two shops and they say I have to buy a new fuse box, which they don't sell. I was also told this could mean my alternator is the problem and not my ELD, I'll try to test my alternator with a voltmeter.

What's the best place to find a ELD or failing that a new fuse box? I've seen them on ebay only so far, and I try to avoid ebay.

I'm afraid the dealer will be your only option on a new one. You could always roll the dice on a used one.
