I recently replaced the brake lamp switch in my 2001 Dodge Caravan. Now the brake lights come on for no reason- even when the car is parked and not running. It has on one occasion drained my battery bad enough to require a jump start. Could it be due to the new switch? Or is it more likely something else?

It was likely adjusted incorrectly when it was installed.
- Mount and adjust the NEW brake lamp switch using the following procedure:
- Install the switch in its bracket by aligning the index tab on the switch with the slot in the mounting bracket.
- When the switch is fully seated in its bracket, rotate the switch clockwise approximately 300 to lock the switch into place.
- With the brake pedal in the fully released position, move the lever on the back of the brake lamp switch from the angled non-adjusted position to the full vertical position as shown. This will adjust the brake lamp switch to the vehicle.
- Install silencer panel below steering column knee blocker.
- Reconnect the battery negative terminal.
- Check the stop lamps to verify they are operating properly and not staying on when the pedal is in the released position.
- Road test the vehicle to ensure proper operation of the brakes (including ABS if equipped) and speed control (if equipped).
