Battery sparked. Why?

I recently replaced my car battery and two of the battery cables. When I connected the cables, I may not have connected them to the bolt (not the battery terminal) in the right order. When I tried to re-connect the battery, it sparked. Why?

If anything was on like interior lights or even a hood light you would get a slight spark with the last connection. With everything off it shouldn't make that spark, T
