Automatic door locks Sign In

I have a 98 olds Achieva and it has automatically locking doors which does not have a function to be able to disable them. I want to disable them somehow whether it be cutting a wire that sends the signals or whatever the case may be. Does anyone have any suggestions or resources that you can suggest? It is a very inconvenient function in this car especially when you have kids that are always jumping in and out of the car and even for myself when I just need to drop something off to a friend or something like that. PLEASE HELP very annoyed!

Re: Automatic door locks Sign In

So I am guessing the doors lock when in gear, sometimes a scanner can disable or configure the systems -
Reconfigure so as the locks will open when in PARK.
There are different configurations for rear doors, called child protection mode, open from outside only.
Have you looked at owners manual? If no manual get one online they are free.
As far as cutting wires and modifying system-
Helping someone defeat safety items is - uncomfortable.

You certainly don't want to go cutting any wires. These circuits are far more complicated than that and you will create a whole new set of issues.

You really shouldn't go just chopping up wiring.

There is a feature to disable the doors from unlocking when you turn the ignition off. You don't need a scan tool. Just remove the dr unlk fuse from the fuse panel.

You shouldn't disable the automatic door lock function. Its a safety item, so it isn't advisable to modify it. There aren't any power lock switches in the rear doors. If your kids are getting in and out of the vehicle while the vehicle is in motion or without your permission, you better take a better look at yourself.

Re: Automatic door locks Sign In

Check owner's manual. Some vehicles had a sensor that a person was sitting in driver's seat (or passenger's too?) and when not there doors locked and when there did. You could just unplug the sensor and it told you where it was to do so.

DO NOT CUT WIRES AS ALL HAVE SAID!!

Olds in particular do some different things. Look and never lose owner's manuals or now get a copy and print it from on line,
